Season 40: Banaag at Sikat

As an accruement of genuine works produced by its very own and as a reflection of the core values upheld for the past years within the organization its members call home, Teatro Tomasino, the university-wide theater guild of the University of Santo Tomas, guided by the theme, “Banaag at Sikat”, envisions itself as a communion of enthusiastic individuals, with the mission of expressing thanksgiving to the Thomasian community who have contributed to the culmination of the organization's 40th year through advocating the beauty of Philippine theater, Philippine culture and the Filipino identity with the use of theater arts and by continuously honing the talents and craft of its members.
  • 17th day of September 1977Birth of Teatro Tomasino

    The foremost and only recognized university-wide theater guild of the University of Santo Tomas first saw light on the 17th day of September 1977, when 25 students of the university established the name Teatro Tomasino under Prof. Myrna Hilario and Prof. Piedad Guinto.
  • April 2, 1977 Start of Workshops

    Formal workshops started on April 2, 1977 after which the curtains opened for the first time with the performance of Orlando Nadres’ And Awit na Hindi Matapos-tapos under the direction of Maryo J. Delos Reyes.
  • 2000s

    On its 39 years of existence, Teatro Tomasino has produced of various personalities such as John “Sweet” Lapus, Erick Salud, Don Cuaresma, Arnold Clavio, Roxy Liquigan, Jose Victor Torres, Malou Crisologo, even the late Wenn Deramas and still continues to produce various media and theater practitioners equipped with the discipline and knowledge of a Thespian.
  • 2015 Recent Years

    On its recent years it has produced different productions such as “Dos Por Dos” — a twin bill production directed by ABS-CBN director Erick Salud. Dos Por Dos features two Palanca winners: Joe Cool Aplikante by Joshua Lim So and Our Lady Of Arlegui by Chris Martinez; and “Tagumpay at Trahedya” directed by Palanca Award-winning playwright Jose Victor Z. Torres. Just last year did Teatro Tomasino showcased the stage adaptation of Eljay Castro Deldoc’s hit novel of Ricky Lee, “Para Kay B”. The production directed by Teatro Tomasino’s alumnus, Arch. Carlos A. Buendia, made a mark not only to the Thomasian Community but also to the avid fans of Ricky Lee and his works.

    At present, Teatro Tomasino continues to produce high-quality theater productions to contribute to the development of Philippine Theater especially to the Students of UST.

Mission

Teatro Tomasino cultivates and encourages excellence in the field of theater arts upholding Thomasian values to bring forth compassionate Filipino artists.

To promote and build up the Thomasian’s artistic, cultural talents, and literacy in the field of Theater Arts.

To endorse communal undertakings, responsibilities, and cooperation among all university students with the guidance of Thomasian core values.

Vision

Primarily to present slices of life with its myriad of intricacies, nuances and realities and absurdities on stage through the socio- culturally relevant performing art of theater;

To awaken and develop the Thomasian artistry and cultural inclination in the field of theatrical arts;

To encourage the student artist and provide them with a medium of expression in their intention of clearly defining Filipino identity;

To centralize into one coordinating body the dramatic efforts and activities of the Thomasian and providing liaison among the different college dramatic groups;

To promote and encourage the Thomasian values of brotherhood and unity.
